7 Steps to Quit DotA forever!

Follow these 7 simple steps and witness the miracle:

Step 1.

Uninstall the game from which ever folder you had decided to install. Use the Add/Remove, Programs and Features, Uninstaller Software or whichever method seems convenient to you. This is the most important step. Do not risk skipping this!

Step 2.

Delete all relevant maps, hotkey software like warkeys, all associated host bots or other software that reminds you of DotA. Everything that anything related to the game must be deleted. You don't want to be reminded of the game in any way. Especially on days, you really feel weak or bored.

Step 3.

Delete the replays, awesome skill videos, fun videos and all such media that might allow you to miss the game in any manner. We have to be very careful in the initial phase not to allow the lures of the game to trap us in any manner whatsoever.

Step 4.

A major cause for relapse or falling back into the addiction is the seeming harmless checking up of map updates on getdota.com or keeping up with friends on playdota.com.
In the early stages, it's always advisable to keep atleast a 100km of physical (and virtual) space between you and your DotA friends. Trust me when I say that all their talks of pwnage and ownage is going to dissolve your resolve faster than ice in the Sahara.
So, in this step, Delete your garena software, garena plus, rgc, dotalicious or which ever preferred gaming client you use and delete and block your DotA friends on skype and on other voip software. If, at this stage, you realise almost all your friends are DotA friends, don't worry, this just means that you are ready to make new awesome friends IRL (like me. :D)

Step 5.

Here, edit your hosts file to block playdota.com and getdota.com - This step might seem a little extreme to some, but it is the main reason that I relapsed into this addiction the last time I fell.
To do this step PERFECTLY, please visit the awesome guide on HowToGeek.com and add the following code to the very last line in the hosts file:

127.0.0.1 www.playdota.com
www.getdota.com www.dota2.com

PS: Remember to create a new line at the last line of the hosts file by hitting "Enter" and copy-pasting the above mentioned code there; after which whenever you access playdota.com, getdota.com or dota2.com, you would receive this "Not Found" error.

Step 6.

Once, you have deleted everything related to Warcraft and DotA from all your hard drives, (use the Find feature on Windows or Finder on Mac or Everything Search Engine)
Give yourself a nice little pat on the back and congratulate yourself for having taken such a momentous step in your life. Do not risk skipping this either! Credit must be given where credit is due. :)

Step 7.

 Imba Secret Step:
Write down a letter to yourself in a blog or in a notepad text file or even on a piece of toilet paper, why you want to quit dota and how you arrived at this decision in the first place to secretly remind you every time you feel the urging to go gaming. Get a fellow friend or a family member to help you get through this sober phase and share your feelings. Even better, help your other gamer friends quit this addictive game and spread the wisdom. That way you take more responsibility for your actions and by extension, your life.
This blog is the culmination of this secret step. :)

Good luck!
